Rough Material & Slabs
|
||
| We prefer to cut all of our matrix opal material,
but thought we'd put out a few pieces while they're awaiting the wheel.
Buy 'em before we cut 'em. Prices are in USA dollars. Although matrix opal is our favorite and is great carving material, we live a day's drive from the best agate field in the world, Agate Creek. We do have agate rough for sale in its natural state. Many of the stones from Agate Creek are little ones with striking pastel oxides on the surface. We sometimes just drill them (no polishing) & use them as beads. Email us if you'd like more information. |

Rough 07 This is the prime view of Rough 08.
Koroit Matrix opal unpolished; you can see the saw marks. This slice gave
us lots of trouble (the saw bearings had worn); so this side has 3 deep
saw cuts, & so 3 thicknesses to the stone. Price: $2800
|
Rough 08 weight: 210 grams. Size: 110 x 120 mm.
The expanded view of Rough 07. You can see the saw marks (3). You're looking
here at the very center of the "nut". Koroit nuts are bigger than the
ones from Yowah (generally), but smaller than most Boulders. This was
a fabulous one; so unreal in its cloissone art. Price: $2800

Rough 45 weight: each half is more than I can weigh on 610 gr. scale Size: 9" x 5.5" x 3" when joined together. This pair of splits came from a Quilpie Boulder Opal that was big as a bathtub. Price: $2000 |
|
Rough 31 weight: 70 grams. Size: 110 x 90 x 3.7
mm. Koroit Matrix Opal. Also see Rough 30,32, & 33 for close ups and the
other side. Patterns like intricate cloisonne work. Magic. Price: $1600
|
Rough 32 weight: 70 grams. Size: 3" x 4" x 1/8".
Koroit Matrix Opal. Also see Rough 30 & 31 for the other side. This is
a closeup of Rough 33. Wild patterns. Price: $1600
|
Rough 48 weight: unlimited Size: these average
about a walnut size. Carnelian, sard, agate from Agate Creek, north Queensland
the world's best agate field. Note the striking hues of the oxides on
the outside of the stones. We sell all grades by the kilo or the pound.
Just ask.

Rough 30 weight: 70 grams. Size: 110 x 90 x 3.7
mm. Koroit Matrix Opal. Another "cloissonature" piece, with unreal patterns
both sides. This is a closeup of Rough 31. Price: $1600
|
Rough 33 weight: 70 grams. Size: 110 x 90 x 3.7
mm. Koroit Matrix Opal. Also see Rough 30 & 31 for the other side. This
is a broader view of Rough 32. Strange, huh? And beautiful. Ain't nature
wonderful? 12,000,000 years in the making. Price: $1600
|
Rough 49 Most Yowah Nuts are empty of opal, and
some just plain empty. The Australian Aborigines would use them as pots
to store their ochres in for body paint. Some of the nuts are filled with
different colored ochres. Neat specimens! Price: $5 and up . . . but sometimes
free to people who are nice to us.
